Looking for a family-friendly hike near Zurich? Route 4 in Atzmännig, Goldingertal, is our latest find, offering fire pits for grilling sausages and stunning panoramic views. Add some extra fun for kids with the rope park, playground and Gold Trophy Boxes at Atzmännig or even stay the night in a cosy PODhouse.
This morning, the rain set a beautiful stage for adventure, draping meadows in glittering droplets and drawing misty curtains across the mountains. While the views were still waking up, the playground at Atzmännig was already alive with action: swings swaying, kids climbing and sliding and a fierce game of Connect Four unfolding at the “Gold Trophy” box.
We left it all behind and took off: the chairlift carried us skyward to 1,200 metres above sea level, where our hike began. Route 4 led us over Schwammegg and Rotstein, winding through moss-covered forests and across lush green ridges – sometimes wrapped in clouds, sometimes opening up to sweeping valley views. Benches and fire pits lined the way and we happily stopped. Sausages sizzled, children whittled sticks into grill fork sand the wind tugged playfully at our hair as we reached Tweralpspitz, 1,332 metres high and brimming with freedom. Later, our descent was a joyful scramble – past an alpine hut, down wooden steps and through shaded forests, until Hinter Altschwand greeted us with restaurant “Alp Altschwand” and another playground. In the afternoon, back at Atzmännig, we swapped peaks for treetops, conquering the rope park for one last thrill.
It was a day filled with muddy boots, mountain magic and treetop joy – and it provided proof that all you need for a fun family day out is a great destination, good shoes, sausages, a trusty pocket knife and a spirit for adventure.
